:: Climbing rope and
spurs
The climbers is using a special rope with a
steel core in the middle, spurs on the feet and special
gloves.
The length of the rope is adjusted with a special
knot that the climber can adjust with one hand.
There are different types of spurs:
The regular spurs are for working up in trees. These
spurs has to be used in Novice and intermediate class competition
earlier.
Working spurs have long gaffs for safe work on trees
with bark.

Competition
spurs are made in aluminium or titanium with short flatfiled
gaffs for going fast down.
The Open class speed climbing uses toe spurs. They give
the climber some extra push going up because the spurs
are mounted further forward on the feet and allows him
to also use the wrist. They are also called trombone
spurs because the rods are sliding.

:: Crosscutsaws
There are two different
types of crosscutsaws:
The old peg and rakers and the new M-toot saw made
in New Zealand.
(some new peg and raker saws are made in eastern Canada
that are really fast, but they are hard to get a hold
of.)
For Novice and Intermediate it has to be the
peg and raker saws. Only Open can use the M-tooth
saws.

:: Axes
There are two main types for this sport.
The double bitted throwing axes from Sweden or New Zealand.
The chopping axes are from Australia or New Zealand
and weighs 2,5 2,8 kg. They are razor sharp and
comes in a lot of different grinds and shapes |

on the kind of wood that ais going to be chopped.

:: Chainsaws
ATS is using a lot of different chain saws for the shows.
In Scandinavian shows Jonsered saws are used, and in
rest of Europe it is mostly Husqvarna saws.
For carving chairs the Jonsered 2055 is the favourite
saw. |

| For more
bucking the Jonsered 2071 is the saw. Tuned up racing
saws are Jonsered 670, 2095 and a 2190 (twin 2095) with
two cylinders and over 20 hp. Also on stage are
a
360 ccm Yamaha “chain saw”. This
saw is a 50 hp racing machine that really eats
wood. A race version of Husqvarna 3120 is also used.
